Il Working Test è una delle modalità attraverso cui è possibile ottenere la
registrazione di un border collie da lavoro /sheepdog all'International Sheepdog Association-ISDS (vedi sotto).

Per avere accesso al test è necessario che :
1. Il proprietario del cane sia socio ISDA
2. Che il cane sia stato sottoposto a test per la ricerca delle oculopatie
congenite (PRA e CEA)
3. Che il cane sia stato sottoposto al test genetico Optigen per il CEA
4. Che sia pervenuto alla nostra associazione il pagamento del test
REGISTRAZIONE PER MERITO - CONDIZIONI PER OTTENERLA
I cani che hanno già compiuto i due anni non possono venire registrati
seguendo il normale iter.Esiste però un sistema attraverso cui è possibile
sottoporre allo Stud Book Committee i dati specifici di un cane di buona linea
allevatoriale e con sufficiente capacità di lavoro perchè venga Registrato per
Merito (ROM). Questo è importante per molte persone che posseggono dei cani non
registrati, ma il procedimento è piuttosto complesso e necessita di qualche spiegazione. Esso non deve costituire una facile opzione per quanti non abbiano
registrato i cuccioli a tempo debito.
Prima di tutto, il proprietario del cane e il cane stesso hanno mai gareggiato
in una gara di pastorizia?
Se la risposta è sì, una via per ottenere il ROM è
attraverso il successo in gara, essendosi aggiudicati un primo posto oppure due
volte il secondo posto o, ancora, per tre volte il terzo posto in gare Open a
cui abbiano partecipato almeno 25 cani. Questo è difficile da realizzare in
alcuni paesi d'oltremare. Comunque la Società accetta come standard sufficiente
anche l'essere stati selezionati nel team della propria nazione per gareggiare,
ad esempio, al Campionato Continentale.
Un'altra possibile strada per l'iscrizione per merito è quella che passa
attraverso il Working Test.
Chiunque può prendere parte ad un Woking Test,
l'aver gareggiato in precedenza non è più un ostacolo. Attualmente un Working
Test può essere fatto in UK oppure in Irlanda oppure attraverso ad un Club
Associato all'ISDS. Il cane deve passare un test per dimostrare la propria
abilità nell'Outrun, Lift, Fetch e Drive e nei normali lavori di fattoria con un
gruppo di pecore nel luogo prescelto per lo svolgimento del test dalla Società o
dal Club Associato; il test verrà giudicato da due Directors (dell'ISDS) oppure
da un Director e da un Esaminatore approvato se si tratta di un test organizzato
da un Club Associato. Sia il Director e sia l'Esaminatore debbono entrambi
essere d'accordo sul risultato. Questo test non dev'essere una gara di sheepdog,
è un test sulle capacità del cane a svolgere il tipico lavoro di fattoria, e non
sull'abilità dello handler.La natura e i dettagli del test dovranno perciò tener
conto del terreno, dei dintorni e delle circostanze.
Se vi serve un Working Test
vi saremo d'aiuto mettendovi in contatto con delle facce amichevoli che vi
guideranno gentilmente attraverso il percorso.
Una volta che avrete scelto una delle azioni che vi abbiamo qui sopra,
confermate di essere in grado di adempiere o soddisfare alle seguenti clausole :
1. Il richiedente dev'essere il proprietario del cane e deve essere , o
diventare, membro dell'International Sheep Dog Society al momento della
presentazione della domanda.
2. Il cane che viene sottoposto al ROM deve essere un Border Collie che abbia
compiuto i due anni e deve avere un certficato oftalmico che lo comprovi esente
da oculopatie rispetto al CEA e al PRA (CPRA) e, inoltre, deve avere il
risultato del prelievo di sangue per la ricerca del DNA fatto dal'OPTIGEN per il
CEA/CH , da cui risulti che il cane è Normal (esente) o Carrier (portatore sano)
, (Il test del DNA sostituisce la richiesta del test oculistico dei genitori del
cane).
3. Fornire una storia sulle linee di sangue del cane con i particolari completi
sui proprietari del padre e della madre del cane e dei loro numeri di
registrazione all'ISDS nel caso che siano rintracciabili sui pedigree ( anche se
non è condizione necessaria che i genitori siano registrati all'ISDS).
4. Una fotografia a colori del cane di cui si richiede la registrazione , in cui
si vedano i colori e le marcature.
5. Una conferma scritta da un Director della
ISDS attualmente in carica che
certifichi che il cane per cui si richiede la registrazione è un WORKING SHEEP
DOG (un cane da lavoro sulle pecore) e che è tipico. Questo vuol dire che
indipendentemente dal tipo di mantello, colore o taglia , il cane è un Border
Collie in quanto accettato da questa società.
La vostra domanda dev'essere fatta compilando il modulo allegato. Se sono
disponibili tutte le informazioni richieste , e se è riportato un Working Test,
il procedimento per la registrazione verrà esaminato dallo Stud Book Committee
entro 28 giorni. La domanda dev'essere accompagnata dal pagamento dela tassa
corrente che non verrà restituito nel caso che la registrazione non venga
accettata. Comunque, vi aiuteremo ad accertare che ci siano tutti i dettagli
prime di cercare di fare un Working Test.

Al cane che sia stato Registrato per Merito viene rilasciato un Certificato,
viene registrato nello Stud Book e la sua progenie ha il pieno diritto di essere
registrata e di partecipare alle gare della Società secondo le regole
appropriate. Notate che ciò significa anche che i cuccioli figli di un padre o
di una madre ROM sono retrospettivamente idonei ad essere registrati se hanno
meno di due anni.

REGISTRATION ON MERIT – CONDITIONS
Puppies over two years old will not be accepted for registration by the normal
route. However, there is a scheme whereby the details of dogs of good breeding
and sufficient working merit can be submitted to the Stud Book Committee for
Registration on Merit (ROM). This is of interest to many people with
unregistered dogs, but the process is somewhat complex and needs some
explanation. It is not supposed to be an easy option for those who did not
register pups at the right time.
Firstly, have the owner and dog ever competed in a sheepdog trial? If the answer
is yes then one route to ROM is by success in competition and an award of one
first prize or two seconds or three thirds at an Open Trial, with a minimum of
25 dogs competing. This is difficult to achieve in some overseas countries.
However, the Society also accepts selection for that Nation's team, for example
to compete at the Continental Championship, as sufficient standard.
Another route is by a Working Test. Anyone can take a working test, previous
trialling is no longer a bar. Currently, the Working Test can only be taken in
the UK or Ireland, or by an ISDS Associate Club. The dog must pass a test of
skill in Outrun, Lift, Fetch and Driving and general farm duties on packet of
sheep at a test location nominated by the Society or Associate Club and assessed
by two Directors, or one Director plus an approved Examiner if it is an
Associate Club test. Both Directors/Examiners must be in agreement with the
result. This test is not supposed to be a sheepdog trial; it is a test of the
ability of the dog to undertake typical farm work, and not the skill of the
handler. The nature and detail of the test will thus take account of the land,
surroundings and conditions. If you need a Working Test then there will be help
putting you in touch with some friendly faces to gently take you through the
process.
Once you have selected one of the above, confirm that you can fulfil or supply
all the following:
1.
The applicant must be the owner of the dog and must be, or become, a member of
the International Sheep Dog Society on submission of the application.
2.
The dog that is the subject of the ROM must be a Border Collie over two years
old and have a clear ophthalmic certificate for the eye diseases CEA and PRA (CPRA)
and must additionally have a DNA blood test result from Optigen for CEA/CH
showing a Clear or Carrier result (this DNA CEA/CH test requirement replaces the
need for parent dog eye tests).
3.
Supply a history of the breeding of the dog with full details of its sire and
dam giving owners and ISDS registration numbers wherever available in the
pedigree (although it is not a requirement that parents be ISDS registered).
4.
A colour photograph of the dog seeking registration, showing colour and
markings.
5.
Written confirmation by a currently serving Director of the Society that the dog
seeking registration is a Working Sheep Dog and is true to type. This means
that, irrespective of its coat style, colouring or size, the dog is a Border
Collie as accepted by this Society.
Your application should be made on the attached form. If all the information is
available, and any Working Test has been reported, the registration process will
be considered by the Stud Book Committee within 28 days. The current fee must
accompany the application and is not refundable if the registration is not
accepted. However, we will help ensure your details are all there before we try
to arrange a Working Test.

A dog successfully Registered on Merit has a Certificate issued, is entered in
the current Stud Book and has full rights for its progeny to be registered and
to enter Society Trials under the rules applicable. Note that this also means
that pups sired by or whelped from the ROM dog are retrospectively eligible for
registration if they are less than two years old.
